Verkle trees are the proposed Merkle trees replacement for storing the Ethereum state.

The proposed Verkle trees (for [V]ector commitment + M[erkle] tree) use bulletproofs as their proposed vector commitment scheme, using a novel elliptic curve called Bandersnatch.
